Iran has rejected allegations it had a role in the assault on Israel by Hamas.
Iran says claims that it played a role in Hamas’s assault on Israel were unfounded.
“The accusations linked to an Iranian role… are based on political reasons,” foreign ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanani told reporters.
Palestinians had “the necessary capacity and will to defend their nation and recover their rights” without any help from Tehran, Kanani added.
His comments came after The Wall Street Journal reported that Iran helped Hamas plan its surprise attacks.
The two countries have been at odds for decades. It is not the first time that they have exchanged accusations of playing a role in attacks and sabotage operations in each other’s territory.

Iran: At least 100 dead in bomb blasts near general Qasem Soleimani's tomb | BBC News
At least 103 people have been killed by two bomb explosions near the tomb of Iranian general Qasem Soleimani on the fourth anniversary of his assassination by the US, Iran's state media report.
State broadcaster Irib said dozens more people were wounded when the blasts hit a procession near the Saheb al-Zaman mosque in the southern city of Kerman.
It cited Kerman's deputy governor as saying it was a "terrorist attack".
It was not clear who was behind the explosions and there were no immediate claims from any groups.

Independent TV network Iran International has suspended its operations in the UK because of threats against its London-based journalists.
The Persian-language TV channel said that the decision was due to a "significant escalation in state-backed threats from Iran".
The station will continue to operate from its offices in Washington DC.

Fattah: Iran unveils its first hypersonic missile
Iran has unveiled its first-ever hypersonic missile, Fattah, which it says can penetrate missile defence systems and will give it a military edge.
State media on Tuesday published images of an unveiling ceremony, attended by President Ebrahim Raisi and senior commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), with the domestically made black missile visible.
State media said the missile can move at a speed of up to Mach 15 (5,145 metres or 16,880 feet per second), has a range of 1,400km (870 miles) and features a moveable secondary nozzle and employs solid propellants that allow for high manoeuvrability.
Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has chosen the name, they said, which roughly translates to “the opener”.

Pakistan has summoned Iran's top diplomat in Islamabad over what it describes as an unprovoked violation of its airspace.
Tehran fired a missile that landed in Pakistan's Balochistan province - killing at least two children.
Iran says it was targeting the headquarters of the 'Jaish al-Adl group'.
It also blames them for several targeted attacks on security forces over the years.

Zeeshan Salahuddin is a security issues specialist. He's also the director of the Centre for Regional and Global Connectivity at Tabadlab, that's an advisory services firm focusing on geo-politics.
He says Pakistan is extremely aggrieved by what it views as Iran's act of bad faith.
